TAMBOBONG WHITE BEACH

So now you wish to venture the Snake Island and Crocodile Island or just laid back and relax on the white sand here in Tambobong Beach. A safe haven secluded and guarded by on its both sides West Coast is the Crocodile Island and East coast is the Zambales. On its front is still Zambales so, the deep blue sea remains in tranquility amidst chaotic typhoon threats.

The town got its name from the medicinal herb "dosol" which abound in the locality during the Spanish period. The leaves of this herbal plant are greenish and oval in shape. It is a tuber relatively very low in height. It was commonly used to cure infected wounds, but was found to have the unusual characteristic of miraculously disappearing (abandoning its post) for unknown reason never to be located again. Its name was frequently mispronounced as Dasol by the Spaniards, so that when the place was established as municipality in the 19th Century, Dasol became its official name.

Bolinao Wonderful Cave

Wonderful Cave isn’t as large as most caves I’ve been to. It was actually really quite small, a basketball court is bigger I think. But what it lacks in size, it makes up with delight.

The floor of the cave is made up of a very cold freshwater natural pool. And tourists are allowed to dip in and actually swim on it! The floor is quite rocky so footwear’s a must for those planning to go in for a swim. The water can go as high as chest-deep on some parts, but most areas are shallow. There is apparently a secret room inside the cave the we were unable to explore.

The whole cave seemed made of craggy limestone rocks. And although the ceiling of Wonderful Cave goes up pretty high, it was stifling hot inside. I would have jumped down the water with the gang if I only I was wearing proper swimwear.

The national park was created by Presidential Proclamation No. 667, covering an area of 16.76 square kilometres (6.47 sq mi) and signed by President Manuel L. Quezon on January 18, 1940, for the benefit and enjoyment of the people of the Philippines and known as the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP). The Republic Act No. 3655 signed on June 22, 1962, created the Hundred Islands Conservation and Development Authority (HICDA), for the conservation, development and management of HINP. The park including Lucap Bay was transferred from HICDA to the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) by virtue of Section 35 of Presidential Decree No. 564.

On April 27, 1982 under Proclamation No. 2183, the national park including Lucap Bay and its foreshore areas, beginning from Sitio Telbang to the east to Sitio Recudo to the west, were declared as a Tourist Zone and Marine Reserve under the control and administration of the PTA. Subsequently under the Presidential Proclamation No. 2237 enacted on November 6, 1982, the parcels of land reserve for the Marine Fisheries Multi-Purpose Farm (created under Proclamation No. 1282 of June 21, 1974) were withdrawn and were also placed under the control and supervision of the Tourism Authority for development purposes.

The Executive Order No. 436 signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on June 21, 2005 transferred the administration, management, maintenance and operation of the whole Hundred Islands National Park (HINP), including all the activities, facilities and improvements thereafter, from the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) to the city government of Alaminos, Pangasinan in pursuit of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, which encouraged the transfer of power and authority from the national government to local government units, in line with the government’s devolution program mandated by the Constitution.

Lingayen Capitol Complex

Lingayen, Capitol
Lingayen Capitol by day, the trees that lead you to this august structure is a refreshing site
The Lingayen Provincial Capitol which was built in 1918, reconstructed in 1949 (during the time of Gov. Enrique Braganza) because it was damaged in WWII and rehabilitated last 2008 (Gov. Espino’s term). It is placed at the center of a sprawling Complex near the Lingayen beach, I was actually surprised that this capital of Pangasinan has this- so spectacular and grandiose.
Out of the 8 Philippine architectural treasures, I learned that it is the only one that can be found outside of Manila. The other 7 includes El Hogar Bldg., The Hongkong Shanghai Bank Bldg., Uychaco building, Luneta Hotel, Metropolitan Theater, Regina Building, and the University of Manila which are all located in the capital city.

I first saw the Capitol on the evening of our arrival in Lingayen, I just wanted to take a short walk and this elegant building just lit up the whole Capitol complex. I can still remember the music coming out of the speakers scattered throughout the park, the romantic benches, the cold Christmas breeze and a bunch of young people relaxing at the nice lawn. I don’t want to be sentimental but the feeling was nostalgic and I found myself caught into that moment.
